District Training Centre
A paid Internet-cum-Computer Training Centre has been set up at the 2nd floor of the Tribal Welfare Building, Office Complex of the DM & Collector, South Tripura. The Centre is well equipped with a RAID Server, 13 PIII Clients, 1 Switch and LAN accessories, peripherals, DCD projector, Air Conditioning and adequate other infrastructure. Necessary computing software like Windows 2000 Server and Windows ME Client, Office Suit has also been made available at the Centre with proper license.
The Centre has
been established by the district administration with the technical supervision
of the District Centre of National Informatics Centre (NIC), South Tripura.
It was also decided that Trainers will be selected through open selection
and remuneration shall be collected from the Trainees as Course fee. Since
the Trainers have been allowed to use the infrastructure, course fees have
been kept at the minimum and comprehensive including the Courseware.
NIC has been
given the responsibility of monitoring Hardware installation and maintenance,
development and periodic review of Courseware, monitoring of the teaching
methods and quality. The District Administration has arranged the funding
from Border Area Development Fund including 3 years of inbuilt hardware maintenance,
Site Preparation and provided with other infrastructure.
For
employees the Centre offers a modular (A1 to A4) and continuous programme
of total duration of 116 hours. The same integrated course is also offered
to students and un-employed youths. Timing of the classes could be anytime
before Office/ School hours (from 8 AM) or after Office hours (7 PM at the
latest) and is arranged on the preference of the applicants. Howsoever, preferred
timing could only be offered if similar timing is also sought after by a full
batch of 12 trainees.

Classes
are organised for students and un-employed youths in two modes, Fast Track
for 6 days a week and 2 hours daily or Normal Track for 3 days a week and
2 hours daily on every alternate days, Sunday being the weekly holiday. For
employees, classes are always on Fast Track of 6 days a week.
The
2 hours daily class is split into 1 hour of theory and 1 hour of Practical
classes. Trainees are expected to clear an exam at the completion of the course
to get Certificates from the Trainers as well as the district administration.
Candidates
are selected after an interview and the Admission Schedule is advertised over
Newspaper Advertisement and Website. Minimum eligibility for admission is
a Class-X pass certificate. District Tribal Welfare Office has arranged for
stipend to Scheduled Caste students to cover the Training cost.
As
on May 31, 2003 the Centre has trained 37 employees from the Revenue and Rural
Development Administration, 49 employees from other departments and 216 numbers
of Students and Un-employed Youths. Also, 48 students and Un-employed Youths
are expected to complete their course on.
The
Centre has been extremely popular with students and youths of the district
as well as the government officials who had to go to the State capital for
any such training.
